Our Training Philosophy
Premier Pet Lodge was founded by Kathleen Tollison, who has spent her entire life in the animal-care world. Her father is a practicing veterinarian in Houston, Texas, and after college she joined his hospital team, spending 16 years as Hospital Manager before opening the lodge here in Utah. That veterinary-rooted foundation shapes how we approach training: with patience, an understanding of canine behavior, and methods that put your dog’s wellbeing first.
We train using positive reinforcement — rewarding the behaviors you want rather than punishing the ones you don’t. This approach builds your dog’s confidence, strengthens the bond between you, and produces results that actually last. Every program is tailored to the individual dog, because a shy rescue, a bouncy puppy, and a strong-willed adolescent all learn differently.
Our Dog Training Programs

Puppy Preschool
9 weeks to 1.5 years
The best time to shape good behavior is early. Puppy Preschool gives your young dog a strong foundation in manners, socialization, and basic skills. Available as a single day for $90 or as a complete package for $1,560.
The Puppy Preschool package includes:
- 16 days of school
- Free pick-up and drop-off
- 4 maintenance in-home private lessons
Board & Train
2-week program, $2,100; add-on week $900
Our most immersive option. Your dog stays with us and trains every day, making fast progress in a structured environment, then comes home with the skills built in. Programs are fully customized and can address basic obedience, grooming desensitization, field trim outings, refresher training, and more.
Every Board & Train program includes:
- Boarding for the length of the program
- 2 training sessions per day
- Half-day daycare every day
- An exit bath so your dog goes home clean
- 4 private lessons to transfer the training to you (plus 2 additional private lessons for each add-on week)
Private Lessons
One-on-one training sessions held in your home or at a location relevant to your dog’s training goals, so you learn the techniques right alongside your dog. Available as 5 sessions for $500 or 10 sessions for $900.
Fear Free Grooming Desensitization Course
Does your dog dread nail trims, baths, or the grooming table? This course uses gentle, gradual desensitization to help anxious dogs learn to tolerate — and even enjoy — being groomed. Available as 5 sessions for $600 or 10 sessions for $1,100, with a full groom included on the final session.
Continued Education for Training Graduates
Keep your dog’s skills sharp after they finish a program. Existing training clients can add a Field Trip, where our trainer takes your dog out to a dog-friendly environment to practice real-world manners, for $60 — or add a Field Trip to a daycare package for $50.
Not Sure What Your Dog Needs? Start With a Trial Assessment
If you’re not sure which program is the right fit, start with a Trial Assessment. For $50, our trainer spends 30 to 45 minutes getting to know your dog, evaluating their behavior, and recommending a plan. The assessment fee varies depending on travel distance, and when you sign up for a training package, you’ll receive $50 off — effectively making the assessment free. Trial Assessments are available throughout Summit County, Utah County, Salt Lake County, and Davis County.
Health and Safety Requirements
Because Board & Train and Puppy Preschool include boarding and daycare time at our facility, dogs in these programs must be current on Rabies, Bordetella, and DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus). Please have your veterinarian send records before the program begins. This keeps your dog and every other guest at the lodge safe and healthy.
